Frequently Asked Questions

What makes these cozies “space-age”?

    • Through a carefully engineered proprietary combination of high tech and traditional materials we have achieved a low bulk profile with excellent heat retention capabilities. When the cozy is properly seated on the table, tea will still be approximately 130° - 150°F for over an hour (depending on your pot).

Why do Fox & Thrush cozies cost more than the average tea cozy?

    • Each of the materials used to make our cozies, particularly the fine embroidered fabrics and designer quality printed fabrics, take extra effort to source and cost far more than the cotton calico so often seen in an average tea cozy.  While calico cozies certainly have their place, Fox & Thrush tea cozies are purposefully designed to be elegant, to add a gracious embellishment to a splendid setting, to bring a bit more beauty to any cherished moment enjoying tea.
    • Additionally, there is a great deal of time involved in hand-cutting each piece, top-stitching the assembled layers, and carefully finishing these beautiful heirloom quality cozies.  I believe in paying a living wage to our skilled American artisans and supporting the local community.  Quality fabrics, quality labor and sustainable practices mean that our prices will be higher than a cozy mass-produced abroad with less costly materials.

Can I wash my teapot cozy?

    • Due to the delicate nature of embroidered fabrics and the inner structure of the cozy, washing by hand or machine is NOT recommended. See our Product Care here

How do I know what size cozy to buy?

    • Measure your teapot from the tip of the spout to the widest point on the handle and from the top of the lid handle to the base of the pot. Refer to our Size Guide to determine which is best.  If your teapot has a particularly wide “belly”, you may want to go up a size.

Why is the bottom of the cozy curved?

    • To maximize heat retention! Our cozies have been precisely engineered to allow the flat fabric to wrap around the curved teapot while hugging the table to keep cold air out.

Will using a cozy make my tea too strong?

    • Nobody wants to stew their tea! When making a pot of tea, whether you use a cozy or not, we always recommend removing the tea leaves or tea bags once it has steeped to your desired strength.  After removing the tea from the water, your cozy will maintain an appropriate sipping temperature without altering the flavor of the tea.
